Mental health is considered a universal human right. Unfortunately, ever since the Covid 19 pandemic, there have been higher incidences of mental health challenges - especially among teenagers.

Living in Canada, we are fortunate to have various ways to reach out for help, but sadly, the available services are not meeting the needs of thousands of Canadians facing an increasingly complex economic, social and political landscape. Cost can be prohibitive for many people and wait times can last months. Those who’ve come to Canada from countries that put little emphasis on mental health, may face additional barriers in accessing supportive care.

World Mental Health Day calls for action to ensure everyone can access quality care. It draws attention to the reality that one in eight people live with a mental health condition, often facing stigma, discrimination and inadequate treatment. The day serves as a platform to raise awareness, confront systemic barriers and promote inclusion, dignity and community-based support worldwide.
