Canadian Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center commemorates D-Day:"Today we join all Canadians in remembering the fallen and wounded Canadians who fought to liberate Europe from the German Nazis" said Avi Benlolo, FSWC President and CEO.   On this day, June 6, 1944, 14,000 Canadian soldiers landed in Normandy, France alongside allied armies from the United States and Britain. Another 450 Canadians were dropped behind enemy lines, while The Royal Canadian Navy supplied ships and close to 10,000 sailors. More than 350 Canadians were killed and 1,000 wounded in this battle. Over 40,000 Canadians were killed in action in World War Two.  "When we see the rising tide of Nazi ideology and white supremacism, here in Canada, its amazing how quickly Canada is forgetting our part in this war effort.  Thats why education is paramount. " Benlolo added.
