Holocaust Denial to Be Outlawed in Canada

Canada is moving to make it a criminal offence to make a statement denying the Holocaust took place or condoning or downplaying the killing of Jews by the Nazi regime, except in a private conversation. The proposed amendment to the Criminal Code was outlined in the Canadian government's 2022 budget that was released last week.

FSWC welcomes this legislative measure along with several other proposals included in the federal budget to combat antisemitism and Holocaust denial and boost Holocaust remembrance and education.

Pro-Palestine Policy May Cause McGill Student Union to Be Sanctioned

The Students' Society of McGill University has reportedly been given a month by McGill University to repeal its Palestine Solidarity Policy, or else it would no longer be able to collaborate with McGill if its demands are not met. Last month, McGill Principal and Vice-Chancellor Suzanne Fortier denounced the policy and "advised [SSMU leadership] to take prompt and appropriate remedial action" after FSWC raised concerns with the principal.

Noa Tishby Named Israel's First Antisemitism Envoy

Israeli-American actress-writer Noa Tishby has been named as Israel's first-ever special envoy for combating antisemitism and the delegitimization of Israel, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid announced on Monday. Tishby has been a strong voice in the battle against antisemitism and anti-Israel hate. FSWC congratulates Tishby, who recently shared her insights at FSWC's State of the Union event.

GEICO Cancels Event With Linda Sarsour After Outcry

After social media outcry against Linda Sarsour's planned appearance at a company event marking Middle Eastern and North African Heritage Month, insurance giant GEICO apologized for its plan to invite Sarsour, stating it "does not condone hatred" and has cancelled the event.

Woman Who Drew Up Schindler’s Lists During Holocaust Dies at 107

Mimi Reinhardt, who was employed as Schindler’s secretary, was in charge of drawing up the lists of Jewish workers from the ghetto of the Polish city of Kraków who were recruited to work at his factory, saving them from deportation to Nazi death camps.
