Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) met with the commander of the Royal Canadian Navy, Vice-Admiral Art McDonald, today to discuss the organization's concerns over the Navy's previous decision to reinstate a sailor with a long and documented history of neo-Nazi activity. FSWC called on Vice-Admiral McDonald to ensure that Leading Seaman Boris Mihajlovic faces justice for his participation in neo-Nazi terrorist organization Blood and Honour, for his efforts to foment “race war” against Jews and others, and for his attempts to offer for sale military-grade weaponry to other white supremacists.

Educational Programs Offered After Edmonton Student Identified as Owner of Instagram Account Promoting White Supremacy

According to its statement, Edmonton Police Service identified the owner of the account "nazisofyeg" - which claimed to be the "Nazi Page of Edmonton" and promoted the murder of different minority groups - following a lengthy investigation by the hate crime unit and school resource officer, who determined the case "wasn't about racism, but about bullying" and gave the student the opportunity to make amends rather than being charged.

FSWC has reached out to the EPS school resource officer to discuss what, if any, disciplinary action was taken and to offer the student and their school educational programs that focus on teaching young people about the Holocaust and human rights and inspiring them to stand up against hate, intolerance and bullying.

Three Years Later, Charlottesville's Legacy of Neo-Nazi Hate Still Festers

On Aug. 11, 2017, hundreds of people descended on Charlottesville, Virginia for a "Unite the Right" rally. "The gathering's ostensible motive was to protest the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee. Rather, we believe, it was designed to galvanize for the first time at such scale a wide array of white supremacists and white nationalist organizations and to promote racial, religious and ethnically motivated hatred and violence," write Roberta Kaplan, lead attorney for the plaintiffs in the Sines v. Kessler civil rights lawsuit brought against 24 neo-Nazi and white supremacist leaders, and Professor Deborah Lipstadt.
