FSWC Condemns Series of Hateful Graffiti Messages in Winnipeg

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) expressed shock following the discovery of nearly a dozen of hateful graffiti messages in Winnipeg. Messages such as "Lost white civilizations" and "White extinction?" were discovered on pavement and at least one bench. "Considering the situation in the U.S., as neo-Nazis and white supremacists are openly expressing hateful and antisemitic views, it's extremely concerning to see these views displayed here in Canada," said Avi Benlolo, FSWC President and CEO.

Ottawa Teen Who Spray-Painted Antisemitic Graffiti Won't Be Sentenced as Adult

After pleading guilty for spray-painting racist and antisemitic slurs and symbols on religious buildings, an Ottawa teen will not be sentenced as an adult - dismissing a request by a Crown prosecutor who argued the teen has not shown changes in his racist ideology. The teen was close to turning 18 when he was charged in November 2016. The judge stated the teen's progress since being in custody would be endangered if he's moved into the adult criminal justice system.

Sign at Swiss Hotel Asking Jewish Guests to Shower Sparks Outrage

A sign at a hotel in Switzerland that asked "Jewish Guests" to shower before swimming in its pool has sparked outrage, with Israel's deputy foreign minister calling the incident "an antisemitic act of the worst and ugliest kind." The Swiss government had reportedly denounced the sign in a message to Israel, and although the sign has since been removed, the Simon Wiesenthal Center has issued a statement calling on "the broader Jewish community and their Gentile friends to blacklist this horrific hotel."

UNRWA Closes Hamas Tunnel Found Under Two Gaza Schools

A Hamas tunnel that was discovered in June under two Gaza schools has been sealed, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, condemned Hamas for the terror tunnel, stating that "instead of UN schools serving as centers of learning and education, Hamas has turned them into terror bases for attacks on Israel." Israel is reportedly going ahead with constructing an underground barrier along the Gaza Strip border to defend against the threat of Hamas terror tunnels.

Boston Holocaust Memorial Vandalized for Second Time

For the second time this summer, a Holocaust memorial in Boston has been vandalized. A 17-year-old was tackled by bystanders and charged after allegedly throwing a rock through one of the memorial's glass panels. Police are investigating whether this incident was a hate crime. A similar incident occurred less than two months ago when a 21-year-old shattered a glass panel.

Israeli satellite images reportedly showthat an Iranian missile facility,resembling a missile plant in Tehran, is being built in Syria. Experts havestated that construction began last year. In a speech last week, Israeli PrimeMinister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel "vehemently oppose themilitary buildup by Iran and its proxies, primarily Hezbollah, in Syria and wewill do whatever it takes to protect Israel's security."

OnTuesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani threatened the U.S., statingthat if the country follows through with its sanctions against Iran, Iran would abandon its 2015nuclear agreement with world powers. In early August, U.S. PresidentDonald Trump signed a sanctions bill that targets Iran's ballistic missileprograms and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for their terroristactivities.
