One in Six Canadians Hold Antisemitic Views; Majority Wants to Keep Memory of Shoah Alive: Poll

A survey commissioned by Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center and conducted by Nanos research reveals that nearly one in six Canadians express views that could be considered antisemitic, though a majority believe the memory of the Holocaust should be kept alive.

Teens Charged After Mississauga School Vandalized with Hate-Motivated Graffiti

FSWC commends Peel Regional Police for their quick arrests of three teens after hate-motivated graffiti was discovered on a school in Mississauga last week. Each teen was charged with one count of mischief over $5,000 and will be making court appearances in September. According to police, the vandalism – which included swastikas and other racist and vulgar drawings – is being investigated as a hate-motivated crime.

FSWC Notes Iqra Khalid’s Apology, Revocation of Certificate Given to Member of Organization Supportive of Extremism

Last week, MP Iqra Khalid rescinded a “certificate of appreciation” she had granted to Amin El-Maoued of Palestine House, an organization that Canada stopped funding in 2012 due to concerns over its support of extremism. “We have to deal with antisemitism seriously and on the same platform as other forms of racism,” said FSWC's Avi Benlolo.

Teacher's Summer Trip to Israel Helping Inform New Holocaust Course in Regina

A participant of FSWC's four-day Holocaust education certificate course last year, Michelle Phair - a teacher at O'Neill High School in Regina - spent a second consecutive summer taking a trip to learn about the Holocaust. After travelling to Germany and Poland last year, this year she spent 19 days at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. She is developing a new Holocaust and Genocide Studies course to be offered next year to students that she hopes will "help students connect with empathy to the human face of history."

Israeli rhythmic gymnast Linoy Ashram set a new world record on Saturday after scoring 20.65 points in the clubs event at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup Championship in Minsk. She also won the gold medal in the all-round phase of the competition.

senior Hamas official was quoted today stating that weapons will remain in the hands of Hamas and that "there are no conditions regarding Hamas's right to [continue] the resistance" when it comes to any cease-fire agreement with Israel. The statement comes in response to claims by Palestinian Authority and Fatah officials that a cease-fire between the terror group and Israel would pave the way for an implementation of Trump's unseen plan that they claim is aimed at "liquidating" the Palestinian cause.
