Targeted Shooting at Kosher Supermarket in Jersey City Leaves Multiple Dead

Yesterday's shooting at a kosher supermarket in Jersey City has left six people dead, including a police officer and three innocent Jewish bystanders. After initially claiming the market was chosen randomly and the incident was not a hate crime, investigators have confirmed the market was indeed targeted by the gunmen. According to reports, one of the gunmen also had a history of publishing antisemitic content online.

Avi Benlolo was on Zoomer Radio today to discuss the attack, what is causing rising antisemitism around the world and what needs to be done to prevent such violent hate crimes.

FSWC Backs New Bill Calling for Adoption of International Definition of Antisemitism in Ontario

A bill backed by Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) calling on the government of Ontario to adopt the international definition of antisemitism was introduced to the legislature at Queen’s Park today. The private member’s bill was submitted by MPP Will Bouma and asks the Ontario legislature to officially adopt the definition of antisemitism offered by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).

FSWC Considering Launching Task Force to Investigate Antisemitism at York University

The Task Force will be responsible for establishing facts regarding the scope of antisemitism at the university as well as making recommendations for clear actions that need to be taken in order to address the problem. This week, FSWC also met with the Minister of Colleges and Universities, senior staff from the Premier’s Office and a group of MPPs to demand quick government action to address spiraling antisemitism at York University.

Trump Targets Antisemitism and Israeli Boycotts on College Campuses

According to administration officials, US President Donald Trump is planning to sign an executive order today that recognizes Judaism as a race or nationality to protect Jewish university students from discrimination on campus. The order would allow the government to withhold money from educational institutions that fail to combat discrimination.

Wiesenthal Center Names UK’s Corbyn Top Anti-Semite of 2019

Ahead of Thursday's British elections, Simon Wiesenthal Center has named Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn as 2019's most antisemitic person or event. “No one has done more to mainstream antisemitism into the political and social life of a democracy than the Jeremy Corbyn-led Labour Party,” said SWC's Rabbi Marvin Hier.

A Holocaust Survivor Received Antisemitic Threats, So Thousands of Supporters Rallied Around Her

Hundreds of Italian mayors and thousands of ordinary citizens escorted Holocaust survivor Liliana Segre on Tuesday, walking behind a sign that read "Hatred has no future" through the centre of Milan. Segre was placed under police protection last month due to antisemitic threats against her after she championed a new parliamentary panel against racism, discrimination, antisemitism and online hatred.

The annual award honors “extraordinary individuals for their outstanding professional achievement, contribution to humanity and commitment to Jewish values.”

Israel Poised for 3rd National Election in Under a Year

Israel is heading toward a third national election in under a year as parliament is set to vote today for its dissolution and a March 2 election. Neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, leader of the Likud party, nor Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz were able to form a coalition after failing to win enough seats for a governing majority in the previous two elections.
