McGill University Stands Up for Jewish Student Threatened by Student Council
FSWC commends McGill University administration for standing up for a Jewish student who was recently threatened with removal from the Students’ Society of McGill University if she accepted a sponsored trip to Israel. “The decision made by the SSMU Legislative Council is contrary to the University’s values of inclusion, diversity and respect,” said Fabrice Labeau, McGill University’s Deputy Provost for Student Life and Learning, in a statement.
Supreme Court to Decide Whether to Hear Appeal from Former

The Supreme Court of Canada will decide tomorrow whether to hear an appeal from Helmut Oberlander, a former member of a Nazi death squad, following a long legal battle that included numerous attempts by the Government of Canada to strip Oberlander of his Canadian citizenship. "No former member of a Nazi death squad should be given the opportunity to walk free and enjoy the benefits of being a Canadian citizen," FSWC president and CEO Avi Benlolo said in a statement to CBC News.
Wiesenthal Centre at Historic Day for France: IHRA Definition of Antisemitism Adopted by French Parliament Lower House
Following a two-hour debate on the resolution to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism, which included speakers listing names of French Jewish victims of antisemitic terror, the lower house of France's parliament passed the resolution by a vote of 154-72.

FSWC Launches Feature to Report Antisemitic Incidents
FSWC has launched a "Report an Incident" feature on www.fswc.ca to allow community members to report antisemitic incidents. The feature is part of FSWC's growing list of initiatives to combat antisemitism and hate throughout Canada.
Amazon Pulls Christmas Ornaments Featuring Auschwitz from Site
Over the weekend, FSWC submitted a complaint to Amazon.ca about the ornaments, calling them “a grave and profound insult to the Jewish community and to all those who suffered under the horrors of the Nazis' genocidal regime.” As of Monday, the ornaments were no longer available on Amazon.ca.
Swastikas Drawn on Cars in Montreal’s Plateau
FSWC condemns the drawings of swastikas found in the snow covering numerous cars in Montreal’s Plateau area, home to a large Jewish community. The swastikas were accompanied by drawings of the Star of David, in an apparent attempt to equate Judaism with Nazism.
Poll: 67% of Jeremy Corbyn Supporters Hold at Least One Antisemitic View
According to a poll commissioned by the Campaign Against Antisemitism, 67% of British adults who strongly support UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn "hold at least one antisemitic view," while 33% hold four or more antisemitic views.
Belgian Parade That Mocked Jews Gives Up Its UNESCO Endorsement
On Sunday, the city of Aalst - which gained notoriety after its Aalst Carnival featured an antisemitic float - announced that it wants to withdraw the carnival from UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, stating its people "have had it with the grotesque allegations."
