'Please Let Our Son’s Sacrifice Not Be in Vain': Mother of Slain Jewish Montrealer Says at Pro-Israel Rally

"Please let our son’s sacrifice not be in vain," Raquel Look, mother of 33-year-old Alexandre Look who was killed in the Hamas terror attack on Oct. 7, told thousands of community members at the Rally for the Jewish People in Ottawa on Monday. "Please let us honour his memory by standing up against the forces that seek to destroy the Jewish and Canadian values we hold so dear." The rally was held on Parliament Hill to demand the release of hostages and speak out against antisemitism, with a dozen speakers taking the stage to speak.

Moncton, N.B. to Display Menorah After Council Votes to Reverse Decision on Religious Symbols

On Monday, the City of Moncton reversed its decision to not display the menorah outside City Hall for the first time in 20 years. This followed backlash from the Jewish community, with the Moncton Jewish Community saying the menorah ban "hurts profoundly the Jewish population of Moncton."

FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt had issued a letter to Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold, stating the ban "was wrong and reeks of discrimination."

Police Lay Additional Charges in Hate-Motivated Vandalism Probe at Toronto Indigo

Toronto police have laid additional charges of criminal harassment in the Indigo vandalism case, which FSWC called a "vile antisemitic attack," declaring that those charged have "engaged in threatening conduct that caused a person to reasonably fear for their personal safety." Eleven people have been charged with mischief and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence following the Nov. 10 incident, which is being investigated as a suspected hate-motivated crime.

TMU and Police Investigate After Swastika Shown at Wednesday Rally

Toronto Metropolitan University and Toronto police say they’re investigating after a swastika, replacing the Star of David on a poster depicting the Israeli flag, was displayed during an anti-Israel rally in downtown Toronto last week. The university said that if the individuals involved are TMU community members, "it will be addressed in accordance with university policies as appropriate."

Yesterday, US House Republicans pressed the presidents of Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on their efforts to combat antisemitism since Oct. 7, with some suggesting their response to rhetoric on campus has been inadequate.
