Police Investigating Antisemitic Graffiti Discovered in Calgary

FSWC condemns a recent incident involving antisemitic graffiti in Calgary and is calling on police to thoroughly investigate it as a hate crime.According to the Calgary Police Service, the graffiti found on Deerfoot Trail – which included the words “hate Jews” and a swastika – was spray painted either late Monday or early Tuesday.

FSWC Lauds City of Westmount for Adopting International Definition of Antisemitism

The Montreal-area suburb became the second municipality in Canada to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, after the City of Vaughan did so last month. “We call on all municipalities across the country to follow the lead of Westmount and Vaughan, stand up to growing antisemitism and adopt the IHRA definition,” said FSWC president and CEO Avi Benlolo.

City's Failure to Adopt Antisemitism Definition Is Shameful: Lise Ravary

In an opinion piece in the Montreal Gazette, columnist Lise Ravary speaks out against Montreal's failure to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism following Mayor Valérie Plante's suggestion to send the motion to a committee to come up with a "Montreal model" for defining antisemitism. "Valérie Plante thinks she can do better; that seems like arrogance, or at least a clear case of not knowing what she doesn’t know," writes Ravary.

FSWC's Educational Programming Underway in Ottawa!

FSWC's dedicated Ottawa-based educator Elena Kingsbury was at a Catholic school in Ottawa yesterday delivering three Simon's Story workshops to students in grades 4-6, reaching a total of 180 students! The workshop educates students about the Holocaust in an age-appropriate manner while defining stereotypes, racism and prejudice. Students also learn about real-life heroes and ways they too can be changemakers in their communities. Yesterday's workshop was the first of 20 workshops scheduled for schools part of the Ottawa Catholic School Board.

Israeli PM Meets Sudan’s Leader, Aims for ‘Normalization’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the leader of Sudan on Monday as part of a step toward improving ties with both Arab and African countries. Following the meeting, Netanyahu tweeted that both leaders "agreed to begin cooperation that will lead to normalization of relations between the two countries.”

IDF Strikes Hamas Targets in Gaza After Three Rockets Fired into Israel

Three rockets were fired at southern Israel from Gaza yesterday, and a total of 13 have been fired into Israel so far this week. The Israeli military responded by carrying out airstrikes on Hamas targets in Gaza, including a site for manufacturing weapons for Hamas's military wing.

80% of US Jews Say They Are Pro-Israel, Study Finds

According to a recent poll, eight out of 10 Jewish Americans identify themselves as "pro-Israel," and two-thirds feel "attached" or "very attached" to Israel on an emotional level. The same poll revealed that 57% of those polled identified as "pro-Israel but also critical of Israeli policy."
