Jewish Organization Lauds Reprimand of Former Timmins Teacher Who Promoted Antisemitic Conspiracy Theories

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies has commended the Ontario College of Teachers for its decision to pull the teaching licence of a former Timmins teacher who promoted Holocaust denial and antisemitic 9/11 conspiracy theories to his students.

"The disturbing actions by this former teacher demand nothing less than his inability to set foot in a classroom ever again," said FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt. "The Ontario College of Teachers made the right decision in revoking the man’s teaching licence. Educators have a duty to not only provide students with factual information, but to also inspire them to be upstanding citizens who stand against hate and intolerance."

A Third of Students Think Holocaust Exaggerated or Fabricated: Study

Nearly a third of North American students think the Holocaust was exaggerated or fabricated, according to a new study that assessed what 3,593 teens across Canada and the United States know and think about the Holocaust and antisemitism. Of the 80% of students who stated they had heard of the Holocaust, 40% heard about the Holocaust on social media. More than 92% of Ontario students said they wanted to learn more about the Holocaust. The results are proof of the need for more Holocaust education in schools.

Last year was the most antisemitic year in the last decade, with at least 10 antisemitic incidents happening on average every single day, according to the annual Antisemitism Report published by the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency.

UN General Assembly Adopts Israeli Resolution Aimed at Combating Holocaust Denial

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution aimed at combating Holocaust denial on Thursday. The resolution provides a specific classification for Holocaust denial, using the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance working definition. It also provides actions expected to be taken by signatory countries in order to address the phenomenon, and demands social media networks remove posts that fall under the IHRA definition.
