1. FSWC Files Hate Speech Complaint Against Speaker at Al Quds Day

FSWC filed a hate speech complaint yesterday with the Toronto Police Hate Crimes Unit against Maulana Syed Mohammad Zaki Baqri, a Resident Alim at the Al Mahdi Centre. In his speech at Toronto's Al Quds Day, he said, "Israel, Zionism, should and must know (speaking Arabic)... It is the law that whoever oppresses, he has to be eliminated. One day or the other."

2. Swastika and 'White Power' Graffiti Discovered in BC

Antisemitic graffiti was recently found in Nelson, British Columbia. Two swastikas were first noticed along a gravel road near a popular recreation area, while a third swastika and the phrase "white power" were discovered near an auto wrecker's yard. The graffiti has since been removed and the RCMP is investigating.

3. Trump Administration Facing Criticism After Failing to Appoint a Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism

The administration of US President Donald Trump is under fire after having so far failed to appoint a new special envoy to fight antisemitism around the globe - a position which has been occupied for the last 13 years under both Republican and Democratic presidents.

4. Israeli Air Force Strikes Two Targets in Gaza After Rocket Attack on Israeli Civilians

The Israeli Air Force launched airstrikes against two targets in the Gaza Strip yesterday morning, in response to rocket attacks against Israeli civilians launched from the area on Monday evening. According to reports, the two targets hit - outside of Rafah and Gaza City - were locations known to be controlled by the Hamas terrorist organizations militant wing.

5. The President of Germany Accuses Social Media of Stirring Antisemitic Sentiment in Europe

The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, told German newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine that Germany has suffered from a "centuries-long" problem with antisemitism, and that antisemitic sentiment has been further inflamed in recent years by Muslim migrants who carry anti-Jewish attitudes with them into German society. He added that this toxic brew of antisemitic hatred is being made worse by social media.

6. Knesset Speaker Addresses Russian Parliament, Vows to Destroy Islamic Extremism

Earlier today, the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, Yuli Edelstein, became the first Israeli to address the Russian Parliament - 30 years after his release from a Soviet prison camp. Edelstein implored the gathered Russian politicians to help tackle the problem of global radical Islamic extremism.

An air strike on avillage in eastern Syria held by the Islamic Sate has reportedlykilled at least 15 civilians and injured dozens more. This comes just two dayafter a strike by a US-led coalition had reportedly killed 42 detainees at anIS prison. 

Amid intense fighting nearIsrael's Golan Heights earlier this week, it has been revealed that Iran has formallylaunched the Syrian branch of its infamous terrorist arm - Hezbollah.A report from the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs notes that an Iraniannational newspaper recently wrote that "the Zionist regime that wasconcerned about threats from the Lebanese borders, now should prepare itselffor a new situation (on the Golan Heights front)." 

InIraq, police forces announced that Iraqiforces have taken more than 70 per cent of western Mosul's Old City from IS militants. Forces reportedlykilled 63 IS militants as they advanced through the streets today.

FSWC at Work

While the school year hascome to an end, our education team will continue to be hard at work throughoutthe summer. The Tour for Humanity bus will not be sitting idle, as it'll betraveling to different camps in Toronto and outside of the city - includingHaliburton and Muskoka - in July and August. FSWC will also be welcomingteachers to our office for a Holocaustcertificate course and genocide certificate course. These courses willprepare educators and provide them with techniques for teaching suchsensitive subject matters in the upcoming school year.
