Ukrainian Refugee Relief Fund Approaches Halfway Mark of Goal

Earlier this week, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) launched an Emergency Ukrainian Refugee Relief Fund, in partnership with JRoots, to provide immediate humanitarian relief to refugees fleeing into Poland, as well as sending supplies back into Ukraine to support those who have decided to stay. We are pleased to share that we are approaching the halfway mark of our $50,000 goal. Thank you to everyone who has donated for helping make a difference in the lives of countless Ukrainian refugees.

Yesterday morning, FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt was on CP24 to discuss FSWC's Ukrainian Refugee Relief Fund, which is helping fund humanitarian assistance for Ukrainian refugees in Poland.

Israel ‘Shouldn’t Exist as a Jewish State,’ Amnesty USA Director Tells Democratic Group

Following Amnesty International’s recent report that accused Israel of “apartheid,” the group’s USA director went a step further last week.

"The mask has come off," FSWC said in an online post. "Amnesty USA Executive Director Paul O'Brien says Israel 'shouldn't exist as a Jewish state.' The true intent of Amnesty's report was apparent a month ago and is even more apparent today." Last month, FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt condemned Amnesty's report in his column in the Toronto Star.

Israeli Helps Rescue Ukrainian Grandchildren of Woman Who Saved Her Family During the Holocaust

Sharon Bass grew up hearing stories about Maria Blishchick, the righteous gentile who took in her grandmother Fanya Bass 80 years ago after she escaped the Nazis. Now she has welcomed the Ukrainian granddaughters of Blishchick in Israel after helping secure a visa for the two women.

Sierra Club Reverses Course, Decides to Reinstate Israel Trips After Talk with Simon Wiesenthal Center Rabbi

After canceling its trips to Israel due to pressure from anti-Israel groups, the Sierra Club will reportedly be reinstating those trips. This news comes after Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the Simon Wiesenthal Center sent the Sierra Club a letter expressing disappointment that it had "suddenly become an anti-Semitic polluter by caving to extremist anti-peace groups who seek to demonize, delegitimize and eliminate the democratic Jewish state.” In a phone call, Ross Macfarlane, vice president for conservation at the Sierra Club, assured Cooper that the trips will be back.

IHRA Antisemitism Definition Sees ‘Widespread Consensus’ With 200 New Adoptions: Study

According to a study released yesterday, at least 200 institutions in 2021 endorsed the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism, including numerous countries such as Australia, Poland and South Korea, 60 colleges and universities, and 39 non-federal governments and 96 NGOs and other groups.
