FSWC Calls on Toronto Mosque to Denounce Antisemitic 'Prayers'

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center has called on a Toronto-area mosque to publicly denounce antisemitic remarks broadcast on its property over the weekend. A man using a loudspeaker at the Jaffari Centre, a Shia mosque in Thornhill, recited the Islamic call to prayer and instructed followers to boycott “all the Zionist businesses,” claiming that it is “illegal” and “forbidden” for Muslims to do business with “Zionists.”

On March 14, Gemara - a granddaughter of Holocaust survivors who spent her formative years in Toronto - embarked on a new job as a nurse in a pop-up coronavirus unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Centre in Jerusalem. Eighty-eight-year-old Holocaust survivor Arie Even was among her first patients.

White Nationalist Stickers Found Outside Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Museum of Tolerance

White Nationalist stickers from the Patriot Front movement were found on street light poles outside of the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Museum of Tolerance.

“While the pandemic closed the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Museum of Tolerance, haters and bigots are open for business,” said Simon Wiesenthal Center Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, founder and dean and associate dean and global social action head.

TikTok Video Mocking Holocaust Tattoos on Jews Gets over 600,000 Views

An antisemitic video joking about the tattoos given to Jewish prisoners at Nazi concentration camps has been viewed more than 600,000 times and "liked" more than 63,0000 times on the social media platform TikTok. TikTok reportedly received numerous complaints about the video, which has since been taken down.

Auschwitz Renovation Uncovers Objects Hidden by Prisoners

Objects such as knives, hooks, scissors, pieces of leather and parts of shoes were discovered last month during renovation works at Auschwitz in preparation for an exhibition. The items were hidden beneath a chimney flue in block 17, which was used to house manual workers during the Holocaust.

Israel Finally Swears in Government After 3 Elections

On Sunday, following three elections and a year and a half of political paralysis, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu swore in Israel's new unity government, the largest in Israeli history with an expected 36 Cabinet ministers and 16 deputies. The unity deal calls for Netanyahu to serve as prime minister for the first 18 months before being replaced by Gantz for the next 18 months.

In First, Direct Commercial Flight from UAE Lands in Tel Aviv

Yesterday the United Arab Emirates-based Etihad Airways made history with the first known direct commercial flight between Israel and UAE. An Etihad cargo jet landed in Tel Aviv just after 9 p.m. to deliver virus aid for Palestinians. "Hopefully soon, we will see passenger flights, too,” Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador the UN, wrote on Twitter.
