Canadian Officials Who Met with Ukrainian Unit Linked to Neo-Nazis Feared Exposure by News Media: Documents

Canadian officials who met with members of a Ukrainian battalion linked to neo-Nazis didn’t denounce the unit, but were instead concerned the media would expose details of the get-together, according to newly released documents.

Jaime Kirzner-Roberts, policy director of the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, said Canada had to make it a priority that its military personnel have no involvement with far-right fascist militias in Ukraine under any circumstances. “It’s concerning that, for the second time in a month, we have seen evidence of Canadian military officials engaging with Ukrainian neo-Nazi groups,” she added.

Ottawa Police Conduct Hate Crime Investigation Into Antisemitic Posters

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center is extremely disgusted by antisemitic posters that have appeared throughout Ottawa's west end, including very disturbing posters promoting conspiracy theories blaming Jews for 9/11 and the slave trade, which were found at a skate park and reported to FSWC on Sunday.

Two Men Sentenced for Hate Crimes After Leaving Antisemitic Graffiti Outside Synagogue in Hamilton, Ont.

Two men were sentenced to house arrest, probation and community service yesterday, more than two years after that scrawled antisemitic graffiti on the parking lot of Beth Jacob synagogue in Hamilton.

Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center welcomes the court's decision, which sends a message that there are consequences for such displays of hate targeting the Jewish community and hopefully acts as a deterrent.
