'Freedom Day' Celebrates Canadian Values

Freedom Day pays tribute to Holocaust survivor and Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal and promotes the idea that Canadians "should never forget," said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo when speaking with Toronto Sun. Rain or shine, the event will take place tomorrow at Yonge-Dundas Square, welcoming hundreds of students from across Ontario to encourage them to stand up for freedom, democracy and human rights.The event will feature a variety of incredible speakers to energize and motivate students to bring positive change to their communities.

Wisconsin Introduces Anti-BDS Legislation

Last week, Wisconsin became the latest US state to introduce anti-BDS legislation. Introduced by two state lawmakers, the legislation is meant to prohibit businesses from engaging in boycotts against Israel. More than 20 states have so far passed legislation condemning or prohibiting government business with entities that support the anti-Israel BDS movement. Wisconsin and other states are reportedly expected to pass legislation by the end of the year.

Election Sign in Montreal Suburb Vandalized with Antisemitic Message

An election sign in Dollard-des-Ormeaux (DDO) was found vandalized with the antisemitic message "no more Jews" on Thursday. Corey Fleischer - who will be speaking at Freedom Day tomorrow - was called to erase the message, and police are investigating. A pair of Jewish city councillors seeking re-election have also reported that their election signs were cut down and thrown on the ground.

Belgium Suspends Construction of Palestinian Schools After School Renamed for Notorious Terrorist

The Belgian government has stopped the construction and furnishing of Palestinian schools after learning that a school built with Belgian aid has been named after a notorious terrorist who led a massacre of 38 people near Tel Aviv in 1978. According to the spokesperson for the Belgian Foreign Ministry, Belgium raised the issue with the Palestinian Authority and is waiting for a response.

French Schoolgirl Taunted and Beaten by Classmates for 'Being Jewish'

A 10-year-old schoolgirl in Paris was taken to a hospital after being assaulted by bullies, reportedly because of her Jewish faith. The attack was reported to an antisemitism watchdog in France, which has called on police to investigate the allegedly antisemitic incident. The Paris Local Education Authority stated they are taking the incident seriously and transferring the girl to a school of her choice. In recent years, thousands of of Jews have left France because of increasing antisemitism and fears of extremist attacks.

Israeli Company Unveils Revolutionary Artificial Implant That Could Restore Sight to Millions

An Israeli company, CorNeat Vision, has developed a revolutionary artificial cornea implant that it hopes will restore sight to millions of blind and visually impaired people suffering from diseases of the cornea. The company is looking to begin testing the implants on people in Israel next year and begin a larger clinical trial in the US.

More than 5 million Iraqis havebeen displaced since the Islamic State took over large areas ofterritory three years ago, says the UN. In Mosul, more than half a millioncivilians fled the city when it was overrun by IS militants, and an additional800,000 fled during clashes between government forces and militants.

According to informationrevealed in recent German intelligence reports, Iran made more than 30 attempts to buy illegal nuclear technology in2016. A report released this month by the North Rhine-Westphalia, Germanyintelligence agency said that "32 procurement attempts... that definitelyor with high likelihood were undertaken for the benefit of proliferationprograms." A report from the state of Saxony-Anhaltstated Tehran works "unabated" on its missile program.

On November 23, Ambassador Dan Gillerman - who served as Israel's Ambassador to the UN from 2003 to 2008 and was Israel's elected Vice President to the General Assembly in 2005 - will speak at FSWC's State of the Union. Ambassador Gillerman has been recognized for his stature and strong defense of Israel, and also served as the Chairman of the Israel Chamber of Commerce from 1985 to 2002.Join us for this inspirational and provocative evening as we celebrate and embrace the State of Israel.
