Jewish Human Rights Organization 'Appalled' by Antisemitic Vandalism at Kitchener and Guelph Synagogues

Last week, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center condemned recent acts of antisemitic vandalism at synagogues in Kitchener and Guelph, including extremely disturbing graffiti claiming “ZOG is the real racial supremacists 1488 Hitler did nothing wrong!”

“This series of antisemitic incidents targeting synagogues in the Kitchener-Waterloo-Guelph area is extremely disturbing and a reminder of the growing hatred against the Jewish community that we are witnessing across the country,” FSWC president and CEO Michael Levitt said. "Nobody should have to fear going to a place of worship or feel threatened."

"To be sure, TFOM’s effort to spotlight its past injustice against Jewish students is important. But the true measure of its significance will be determined by whether the institution lives up to Dean Young’s recently stated commitment 'to deepen a culture of respect and inclusivity for our Jewish community members.'"

On Friday, actress and comedian Amy Schumer tweeted a video of a comedy skit with the caption "Keep your antisemitic comments to yourself." The video features numerous antisemitic stereotypes, and the tweet links to the "Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial" definition on the official website of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Ukrainians and Russians with Jewish Roots Flee to Israel

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, about 13,000 Ukrainians with Jewish heritage have made aliyah, or emigrated, to Israel. Double that have come from Russia, and the number is growing since Vladimir Putin's mobilisation announcement.
