York Regional Police Make Arrest Following Vandalism at Rabbi's Home
FSWC applauds York Regional Police for its determined investigation into vandalism at the home of a local rabbi which has led to an arrest. Rabbi Yossi Vorovitch of the Chabad Jewish Centre of Georgina contacted FSWC last weekend after an individual tried to enter the rabbi’s home and confessed to repeated trespassing of the property as well as recent vandalism of the rabbi’s sukkah.
FSWC Files Access to Information Request After York U Student Union Rejects Application to Create Pro-Israel Club
FSWC has filed an official Access to Information request under Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act to compel York University to turn over documents related to the student union’s rejection of a student-run pro-Israel club with no reasons given. FSWC has made numerous requests to university officials asking why the club was denied status, but has received no explanation. In the meantime, an application for an anti-Israel club was accepted, ratified and funded by the student union.
Tour for Humanity Heads East to Peterborough!
The Tour for Humanity headed east to Peterborough last night for two days of workshops at a Catholic secondary school. Today and tomorrow, students are participating in the Global Experience and Canadian Experience workshops, learning about the Holocaust, genocides and crimes against humanity throughout history and human rights issues here in Canada. Since 2013, the Tour for Humanity has visited more than 700 schools throughout Ontario and beyond, inspiring more than 100,000 students of all ages to stand up against hate and intolerance.

Belgium Taps First Ever Jewish, Female Prime Minister
Sophie Wilmes replaced former Prime Minister Charles Michel on Sunday, becoming the first woman and Jewish person to become Belgium's prime minister. Wilmes' mother is a Holocaust survivor who lost several relatives in the Holocaust.
Macron opens new $17 million Jewish community center in Paris
French President Emmanuel Macron joined leaders of the country's Jewish community on Tuesday to inaugurate a $17 million Jewish community centre in Paris as an "expression of resistance, a desire to reanimate our community." The centre was in the works for 20 years.
US House passes resolution recognizing Armenian genocide, bill to sanction Turkey
In a vote of 405-11, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution on Tuesday recognizing the Armenian genocide, in addition to passing a bill to enact a US sanctions against Turkey for its incursion into northern Syria.
Trump says ISIS leader dead after U.S. raid in Syria
On Sunday, US President Donald Trump announced that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, leader of the Islamic State group, died after US special operators cornered him during a raid in Syria - a milestone in the fight against ISIS. Prime Minister Trudeau called the death a "major step in the fight against Daesh."
