TORONTO (June 26, 2017) - Doctors4Wiesenthal (D4W) condemns the recently reported incident wherein the mother of a patient at a Mississauga clinic unleashed a racist tirade and demanded to be seen by a "white doctor."
Jews have historically been the targets of discrimination in the medical field, facing admission quotas to medical schools, barriers to entry to practice, and denial of hospital privileges. Nevertheless, Jewish doctors and researchers have made contributions to advances in all aspects of medical care that are far in excess of their numbers.
The medical field is a borderless place where dedicated professionals work collaboratively to treat disease and relieve suffering regardless of race, religion and nationality. This has been demonstrated nowhere more than in Israel, where hundreds of wounded Syrians have sought refuge and have received world class medical treatment from Arab and Jewish doctors alike.
As an organization of Jewish medical professionals, D4W emphatically asserts that bigotry and intolerance have no place in the practice of medicine.
