Toronto (February 25, 2020) – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) has reached out to an auction house in Stonewall, Manitoba calling for the immediate removal of Nazi memorabilia from its upcoming auction.

The auction scheduled for Saturday by McSherry Auction Service Ltd. currently includes numerous Nazi items such as buckles, pins, coins and spoons engraved with a swastika as well as a Nazi book promoting “racial purity.” The auction house owner was informed about the items by FSWC and said he will be discussing the removal of the items with the seller.

“Nazi memorabilia belong in museums and educational institutions that teach people about the Second World War and the Holocaust, not sold for profit at an auction,” said FSWC president and CEO Avi Benlolo. “These items are associated with the Nazi regime that murdered 6 million Jewish people and millions more, and the swastika remains a symbol of hate that is often used today by neo-Nazis to spread hate propaganda. We call for the immediate removal of these items before they can fall into the wrong hands.”
