Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) supports the Canadian government’s case against Helmut Oberlander, an alleged former member of a Nazi death squad who is currently seeking to appeal to the Supreme Court to retain his Canadian citizenship and remain in the country.

The Supreme Court of Canada is slated to decide tomorrow whether to hear another appeal. This would be the fourth attempt to revoke Oberlander’s Canadian citizenship on the allegation that he misrepresented his wartime activities upon immigrating to Canada.

In a CBC report on the issue, FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo said, “No former member of a Nazi death squad should be given the opportunity to walk free and enjoy the benefits of being a Canadian citizen. Unfortunately, many more former Nazis have gotten away with murder, and we cannot allow that to happen.”

Named after the famous ‘Nazi hunter’ Simon Wiesenthal, the organization continues to monitor and act on various Nazi files around the world. It will be monitoring this case attentively.
