Toronto (January 27, 2021) - Today on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, in recognition of the 76th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) joins communities around the world in remembering and honouring the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of others murdered by the Nazi regime and their collaborators. On this day we reaffirm our commitment to never forget and continue the fight against antisemitism and hate, through education and advocacy, so that such an atrocity never happens again.

In recognition of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt issued the following statement:

"On this solemn day, we remember and vow to never forget the millions of women, men and children who were murdered during the Holocaust. We also honour the survivors, many of whom have dedicated their lives to educating others about the horrors of the Holocaust, and the Righteous Among the Nations who saved countless lives and to this day serve as examples of the difference even one person can make in this world.

"As we remember those whose lives were tragically taken, we are reminded of the dangers of hate and the importance of humanity taking a stand and never allowing such a horrific atrocity to happen again. As we continue to witness growing antisemitism in communities across the country and around the world, with online platforms making it easier to spread hate and conspiracy theories, it's more important than ever to be vigilant and take action."

This evening, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center will be hosting - in partnership with other organizations, synagogues and school boards – a virtual candle-lighting ceremony in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, followed by a special discussion that will share insights into the future of Holocaust education.

FSWC invites you to attend this evening's special virtual commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
