Toronto (October 4, 2019) – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) applauds the work of Halton Regional Police after an extensive investigation has led to the arrest of 2 individuals accused of antisemitic hate crimes in Burlington.

In June 2019, antisemitic messages and flyers appeared around Burlington, including in the City Hall and local art gallery. The perpetrators were caught on security camera, and Halton police went public with the images asking for assistance inidentifying the individuals.

Earlier today, Burlington residents Matthew Wasikiewicz, 21, and Kyle Kroeplin, 22, were charged with two counts of Willfully Promoting Hate in connection to these incidences, and will appear in court later this month.

“Pursing hate crime is often a tiring exercise that requiresa great deal of resolve and determination,” said Avi Benlolo, FSWC President and CEO. “It is a relief to know that Halton Police have prioritized this matter, and have been able to identify the suspects involved and lay charges. This sends a strong message that those who wish to spread hate and antisemitism in our communities will not be tolerated.”
