Toronto (November 13, 2019) – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) has reached out to the Greek Ambassador to Canada to express its support for his government’s decision to adopt a broad definition of antisemitism backed by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that the government would join a growing community of states, including Canada and the US, that have officially adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism.
The IHRA definition of antisemitism includes a detailed description of various forms of antisemitism, including hatred and discrimination against Jews, Holocaust denial, and the denial of the Jewish people’s right to self-determination.
“I am very pleased to see Greece take this important step in the battle against antisemitism,” said Avi Benlolo, president and CEO of FSWC. “I hope to see all countries follow the lead set by both Canada and Greece by adopting the IHRA definition and taking a firm stand against antisemitism.”
