Toronto (September 29, 2020) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) commends York Regional Police for their quick action in identifying a suspect in connection with a series of antisemitic incidents that occurred in the City of Vaughan more than one week ago.

One of the incidents involved a suspect yelling antisemitic remarks at and attempting to assault an individual inside a vehicle. Police believe the incident is connected to six other incidents involving hate graffiti, which included the words "Jews run the world," found on garage doors and vehicles.

In a media release, York Regional Police said an arrest warrant has been issued and asked anyone with information on the suspect's location or the incidents to contact investigators.

"There is no room for such despicable acts of antisemitism anywhere in this country, and it's so important for members of any community to denounce and take action against this and all forms of hate," said Michael Levitt, FSWC president and CEO. "We commend York Regional Police for taking these hate incidents seriously and quickly identifying a suspect, and we are hopeful that charges will be laid soon."
