Toronto (November 13 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) has contacted the Ukrainian Embassy in Canada to convey its outrage over the recent decision to name streets in the Ukrainian capital after Nazi collaborators and war criminals.

According to news reports, Kiev City Council has decided to name one downtown street after a Ukrainian commander who carried out the murder of tens of thousands of Jews during the German occupation of Ukraine. Another street was named after a Ukrainian Nationalist activist who was involved in the mass killing of Poles during the War.

“It is a profound insult to those killed in the Holocaust, as well to anyone who upholds the values of freedom and tolerance, to pay tribute to murderers and Nazi collaborators,” said Avi Benlolo, President and CEO of FSWC. “We call on the political leaders of Ukraine to put an end to these efforts to glorify horrors committed on their soil.”
