Toronto (April 14, 2020) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) has reached out to Ontario Provincial Police to demand a dedicated investigation after a World War II memorial in the town of Paris, Ontario was defaced with antisemitic graffiti.

The Paris war memorial, which commemorates Canadian lives lost in the battle against Nazi Germany and Axis powers in the Pacific, was covered with swastikas and the words “I am German.”

FSWC is asking OPP’s Brant Detachment to investigate the matter as a hate-motivated crime and to undertake a community canvas in search of video surveillance that may have caught images of the perpetrator or perpetrators.

According to reports, the graffiti was removed yesterday by township officials.
