On Sunday, Tour for Humanity started off 6 days on the road at the York Region Police Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Markham. The bus was prominently parked right out front as people entered and left the venue. Members of York Regional Police came on the bus and thanked us multiple times for coming.
Following the Markham event, Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) Educator Daniella journeyed 4 hours west to Windsor, right on the Canada-USA border. This marks our third 2-week trip to the Windsor area. The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board helps organize the visit each year. Senior staff from Windsor Essex went on Compassion to Action in 2015. Today was our first day in the area at a Catholic high school in the small community of Lakeshore, Ontario - about 30km outside of Windsor. Daniella worked with all Grade 10 history classes, who all participated in the Canadian Experience workshop. The classes were just beginning their World War II unit, so there weren’t many questions but our material acted as an excellent introduction to topics they will be covering in the next few weeks.
During the second workshop we were joined by MP Tracey Ramsey, who expressed how much she loved the Tour for Humanity programming and how important it was for young students. It also just coincidentally happened that MP Ramsey had gone to the same high school we were visiting today.
