Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is pleased to welcome philanthropist and business leader, Mr. Fred Waks as the new Chairman of its Board of Directors.

Formerly the organization’s vice chairman, Mr. Waks was unanimously approved as the new chairman by FSWC’s Board of Directors yesterday. He replaces Mr. Gerald Schwartz, who is stepping into the role of FSWC’s Honorary Chairman.

In a statement, Mr. Waks said: “I’m very proud to be a part of one of the world’s greatest human rights organizations. To be stepping into Mr. Gerry Schwartz’s shoes is a very lofty endeavour. Along with Mr. Avi Benlolo, they have created a world-class institution, which I’m honoured to be affiliated with. Unfortunately, there is much work to be done; however, with great management and a strong board of directors, we will be at the forefront of fighting antisemitism, intolerance and ignorance in Canada and abroad.”

“It’s an honour and a pleasure to welcome Mr. Waks as Chairman of our Board of Directors. A respected philanthropist and business leader, Mr. Waks will be at the forefront of our organization, helping it expand its education and advocacy initiatives over the coming years. We thank Mr. Schwartz for his leadership over two decades and his continued association with the organization,” said Avi Benlolo, President and CEO of FSWC.

Fred Waks is President and CEO of Trinity Developments. An active community member, Mr. Waks is involved in a number of local charities, including as the outgoing Chair of Sunnybrook Hospital Foundation, Chairman of the Sherman Campus Leadership Committee, Honorary Trustee of the ROM and past Chair of the Jewish Foundation of Toronto.
