Toronto(March 2, 2020) -- Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) notes that a man arrested last year for attempting to circulate money stamped with antisemitic slogans in Medicine Hat, Alberta has pleaded guilty to wilfully promoting hatred.
In August 2018, FSWC commended Medicine Hat Police Service for laying charges against Loki Hulgaard after a local business reported he displayed money with the antisemitic slogans “Jewish White Genocide” and “ZOG” (Zionist Occupied Government) printed on it.
Hulgaard also faced 13 firearms-related charges after police discovered four firearms, 1,200 rounds of ammunition and over-capacity magazines at his home in addition to hate literature.
“This man represented a clear threat to the Jewish community and had the potential to commit violent acts of hate against Jewish people and other minority groups,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo. “We are thankful to Medicine Hat police for their thorough pursuit of and investigation into this individual, ultimately preventing a possible escalation and physical harm to our community members.”
Hulgaard is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on March 26.
