Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is saddened by news of today's shootout at a Jersey City kosher supermarket that resulted in six dead -- three of whom were reportedly Jewish civilians.

After initially claiming the market was chosen randomly and the incident was not a hate crime, investigators have confirmed the market was indeed targeted by the gunmen.

"While investigators have not officially deemed this incident to be a hate crime at this time, a thorough investigation into the motive of the gunmen must take place," said FSWC president and CEO Avi Benlolo. "My deepest condolences to the loved ones of the victims of this horrific incident, reminiscent of the attack on a kosher market in Paris several years ago."
