Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is deeply shocked and heartbroken by the tragic events that unfolded Saturday evening in Vancouver where Filipino Canadians had gathered to celebrate Lapu-Lapu Day at a street festival.

Canada’s Filipino community, known for its kindness, warmth and generosity, has long shared a strong bond of unity and friendship with the Jewish community, standing together through times of joy and adversity.

The horrific attack on the Filipino community, which claimed the lives of at least 11 innocent people, including a child, and wounded many others, is a profound tragedy that pains us all.

FSWC stands in solidarity with Filipino Canadians, sharing in their grief as they mourn this devastating loss. Our hearts are with the victims, their families and the entire community during this difficult time. We also pray for the full recovery of all those who were wounded and express our gratitude to the first responders for their swift, courageous actions in assisting those in need.
