Toronto (April 27, 2019) - Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) is shocked and saddened to learn of another shooting at a synagogue in the U.S. that has left at least one dead and several others injured.
A gunman reportedly walked into Chabad of Poway Synagogue in San Diego earlier today, during Shabbat and on the last day of Passover, and began shooting before surrendering to police.
“Once again, antisemitism and hate have hurt and taken the lives of innocent people at a place of worship. Antisemitism and hate crimes have not only been increasing in numbers, but are becoming more violent in nature. It’s time for governments to take every measure possible to stop this situation from escalating and becoming more dangerous for the Jewish community,” said FSWC President and CEO Avi Benlolo.
FSWC sends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.
