Medical Journal Publishes Issue Devoted to Israeli Health Care Following Controversial Letter Criticizing Israel

FSWC welcomes the recent actions of a British medicaljournal – The Lancet – which, after publishingan open letter criticizing Israel in the 2014 Gaza war and accusing the countryof war crimes, has decided to dedicate an entire issue to the health caresystem in Israel.

Following numerous responses from medical professionalsexpressing their concern about the letter, TheLancet editor Professor Richard Horton apologized and promised topublish an issue showcasing Israel’s achievements in medicine following a tripto the country.

Dr. Mark Korman and Dr. Philip Solomon, both members ofDoctors4Wiesenthal, commend Horton for taking this step to educate himself onthe Israeli health care system. Both doctors had written an open letter to themedical journal on behalf of FSWC following the critique of Israel’s conduct.

“Thisrepresents a significant turnaround and a very significant step in the rightdirection,” says Korman. “It is proof that education canwork.”

Published on Monday and titled "Health in Israel", this issue features 10 articles highlightingIsrael’s contributions to medicine – including the country’s efforts to care forinjured Syrian refugees and groundbreaking genetic research.
