Razaali Bahadur was sentenced to one year in jail for publicly inciting hatred against Jews in downtown Toronto.

Toronto (October 10, 2025) – Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) welcomes today’s sentencing of a Toronto man to one year in jail for making antisemitic remarks directed at Jewish community members last year.

Razaali Bahadur was found guilty of public incitement of hatred after shouting antisemitic slurs and conspiracy theories at Jewish community members — specifically targeting children — gathered at Nathan Phillips Square in downtown Toronto for a community vigil on April 7, 2024 commemorating the victims of the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre.

In addition to his one-year jail sentence, Bahadur was also sentenced to two years of probation with several conditions: he must not come within 50 metres of any Jewish facility, may not attend protests and is prohibited from making any public comments about Jews.

FSWC submitted a community impact statement to the court earlier this year outlining the harm caused to the Jewish community by Bahadur’s hateful words and harassment, calling his outburst “a conscious, hate-fuelled act designed to intimidate and dehumanize Jewish Canadians at a moment of collective mourning.”

“This sentence sends an important message that such vile hate targeting Jews will not be tolerated,” said FSWC President and CEO Michael Levitt. “No community should ever be subjected to intimidation or harassment simply for expressing their identity and beliefs or standing up against antisemitism.”
