The SimonWiesenthal Center, a leading Jewish human rights NGO, is applauding US UNAmbassador Nikki Haley’s announcement that the US is leaving the UN HumanRights Council (UNHRC). 

“We speakout as an active NGO at the United Nations for more than two decades and as anNGO at another UN agency, UNESCO. We applaud Ambassador Haley’s move andurge other democracies should follow the U.S. lead and leave the UNHRC aswell,” said Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, Center Dean andFounder and Associate Dean and Director of Global Social Action of theWiesenthal Center.

“The UNHRChas perverted its stated mandate by serially abusing Israel, while horrifichuman rights abuses around the world receive scant attention, if atall. It consistently makes a mockery of its own mandate by serving asa rubber-stamping anti-Israel kangaroo court while providing diplomatic safehaven for state sponsors of terrorism and human rights abuse. Like itsdisgraced and defunct predecessor, the UN Human Rights Commission,the UN Human Rights Council in 2018 represents all that is wrong with globalhuman rights,” Hier and Cooper concluded.
