Tour for Humanity visited a public school in Ameliasburgh, a small community near Belleville. Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center Educator Elena taught 5 workshops to elementary school children, 3 of the Canadian Experience and 2 Simon's Story for the Grades 4 and 5 students. It was a very meaningful day for the students and the school was thrilled to be able to have us visit. Students had been prepared for our visit with an introduction to Anne Frank and some basic facts about how Jewish people were targeted during the Holocaust. The kids were shocked to learn about how children, the elderly, and sick people were brutally killed which served as a good transition into talking about why we need to have laws to protect human rights for all Canadians. During the Canadian history segments, there was little knowledge of intolerant attitudes in Canada during World War II so many were saddened to learn about Canada's "none is too many" attitude towards Jewish refugees.
